Nomination committees play a decisive yet often unseen role in Finnish listed companies. They sit at the intersection of ownership, governance, and long-term value creation; shaping who leads, how boards evolve, and how well companies are equipped for the future.

This morning session brings nomination committees and succession planning to the forefront, examining how thoughtful governance choices translate into sustainable value and strategic resilience.

Keynote: Annika Ekman

Our keynote speaker, Annika Ekman, EVP, Investments at Ilmarinen, operates at the very center of Finnish corporate governance. Through her work on nomination committees of some of Finland’s most influential organizations — including Kesko, Neste, Wärtsilä, Orion, Kojamo, and Posti Group — she brings a rare owner-level perspective on board composition and leadership renewal.

In her opening remarks, Annika will share key insights on:

  • The role of nomination committees as a core element of ownership, company success, and long-term value creation

  • How to ensure boards have the capabilities and experience to add value in strategic decision-making, including capital allocation, transformation and change leadership, and succession planning

  • Practical influencing tools within nomination committees, viewed through the lens of Ilmarinen’s Responsible Investment Principles

Governance Perspective: Who can sit on the board?

Following the keynote, Antti Kuha, Partner at Hannes Snellman, will address a fundamental governance question: who can sit on a board? His contribution will clarify legal frameworks, responsibilities, and constraints shaping board composition in listed companies.

Conversation: Responsibility, value, and invisible power

The morning concludes with a moderated conversation led by Helene Auramo, bringing together Annika Ekman and Antti Kuha to discuss responsibility, long-term value creation, and the often invisible but profound influence nomination committees have on Finnish business, and society at large.
